Generate an llms.txt for your website
AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity read the llms.txt file to understand what your website offers. The tool writes it for you from your own pages, in the language of your site.
The llms.txt for your website
Your website already has an llms.txt. Compare it with the file below before you decide what to publish.
Want to hand the file to whoever manages your website? Enter your email and we will send you a PDF with the ready file and the upload steps.
Where to put the file
- Download the llms.txt file from the tool (the Download llms.txt button).
- Log in to your hosting control panel (cPanel or your host's own panel) and open the file manager. If you have no access to it, install a file manager plugin in WordPress.
- Open the site's main folder: the one that contains the file wp-config.php (often called public_html or www). Do not upload the file into the theme folder or the uploads folder.
- Upload llms.txt into that folder.
- Check: open
https://example.com/llms.txtin your browser. If you see the text, it works.
- Shopify publishes its own llms.txt for every online store: open
https://example.com/llms.txtto see it (it is a copy of the store's /agents.md, written by Shopify, and it describes the store for shopping assistants). - Shopify does not let a store owner upload a file to the root of the domain, and a URL redirect cannot replace this file, because redirects only work for addresses that return "page not found".
- To use the generated text anyway, give the downloaded file to the developer or agency who maintains the store: they can publish its content as a regular page (for example /pages/llms-txt) and reuse the descriptions in the product and page texts that Shopify's own file points assistants to.
- Check: open
https://example.com/llms.txtin your browser. On Shopify this address always shows Shopify's own file, so look for the generated text on the page your developer published instead.
- Download the llms.txt file from the tool.
- Log in to your hosting file manager, or connect with an FTP client (the FTP details are in your hosting panel).
- Open the store's main folder: the one that contains the files index.php and config.php (usually public_html).
- Upload llms.txt into that folder.
- Check: open
https://example.com/llms.txtin your browser. If you see the text, it works.
- Download the llms.txt file from the tool.
- Log in to your hosting file manager, or connect with an FTP client.
- Put llms.txt next to the site's main file (index.html or index.php), in the same folder.
- If the site was built by an agency or in a site builder (Wix, Squarespace, Webflow), send them the downloaded file and ask them to publish it at the address /llms.txt.
- Check: open
https://example.com/llms.txtin your browser. If you see the text, it works.

What llms.txt is and why it matters
More and more people ask an AI assistant before they choose a business. The llms.txt file gives it a short, accurate map of your website.
One file that AI reads
llms.txt is a plain text file in the root folder of a website, next to robots.txt. AI assistants read it to understand what you offer and which pages matter most.
Written from your pages
The tool reads your homepage and sitemap, picks the most important pages and describes each one in a single sentence. It invents nothing that is not on your site.
In the language of your site
The file is written in the language your website uses, not the language of this page, so assistants read it in the same context as the rest of your content.
Ready in ten minutes
Copy or download the file and upload it to the root folder of your site. The steps for WordPress, Shopify, OpenCart and other hosting are below the result.
